The TRACKER application has been developed and optimized to perform target detection and tracking and be able to control a paintball sentry unit in real-time. Automatic target tracking involves almost all image processing functionalities: from image enhancement and target detection/acquisition, to target tracking and system support functions.

A STRUCTURED APPROACH TO SYSTEM DESIGN

1. IMAGE ENHANCEMENT

The source video is fed to a pre-processor which uses verified mathematical algorithms to accomplish image enhancement,improve target contrast and suppress clutter, providing a more accurate separation of the target from ‘noise’ in the scene and more robust target acquisition and tracking. A range of different pre-processors are included as standard.

2. TARGET DETECTION/ACQUISITION

The system then identifies objects within an area or window of the video image which meet the user-defined target criteria. A range of different detection algorithms are built in to meet different situational requirements. Automatic acquisition may be prioritized using several different factors, including fastest target and largest target

3. ALGHORITHMS

The TRACKER application feature a wide range of high-performance detection and tracking algorithms which can be tailored for the particular operational scenario,including centroid, background subtraction and contour detection. Algorithms may also be combined to meet particularly demanding tracking scenarios.

4. TARGET TRACKING

In Auto-track Mode, the target tracker automatically tracks the detected target that meets the tracking criteria and can control almost any type of pan and tilt system to keep the paint-ball marker centered on the target.

5. TARGET ENGAGEMENT

When target engagement mode is activated, the TRACKER application will autonomously give command to the triggers servo to fire the paint-ball marker when there is a stable target tracking and the criteria for engagement are fulfilled.

6. DATA LOGGING AND VISUALISATION

In many training scenarios the debriefing and after training analysis is of paramount importance. With the professional version of the TRACKER application we offer a logging module that can records a wide range of parameters.

TRACKER BASIC application can be used on Windows XP SP3 (32/64Bit), Windows 7 (32/64Bit) and Windows 10
The TRACKER application comes in two versions, a standalone BASIC version and a pre-installed PRO version. The TRACKER PRO version can not be purchased separately but comes bundled with the Defender Sentry Units.
The TRACKER BASIC application comes with a servo controller board on which 3 pulse-width modulated servo motors can be connected (most hobby servo motors use this method of control). The TRACKER PRO comes bundled with the RCU and is not sold separately.
The TRACKER BASIC application has been tested with wide range of web cameras and the rule of thumb is if your camera is correctly installed and works under Windows then it can be used by the TRACKER.
The TRACKER BASIC application has been tested and found to work reliably with computers having Intel® Core™ Duo processors and 2GB RAM so any computer having a processor from 2008 and onwards with 2GB RAM and 2 USB 2.0 ports can be used to run the application.
The TRACKER application can not run on Raspberry Pi3, but any other single-board computer with a Intel ® Atom processor and minimum 2 Mb RAM can be used instead.
